Last week a notice was sent out on behalf of Bladen County Board of Elections Chairperson, Louella P. Thompson for an emergency meeting.

The notice stated the emergency meeting would be held on Tuesday, July 28th, at 5:00pm under G.S. 143-318.12. The reason for the meeting was stated, “to review one-stop plans to be in compliance with an Emergency Order released by N.C.S.B.E. Executive Director Brinson Bell Friday July 17th, 2020.”

Only business connected with the emergency may be considered at a meeting to which notice is given pursuant to this paragraph. The meeting will be held at the Bladen County Board of Elections Office at 301 S. Cypress Street in Elizabethtown and open to the public. Seating is limited due to government orders regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic.

BladenOnline received a question asking what the was difference in a mail-in ballot and absentee ballot. Christopher Williams, Director of the Bladen County Board of Election, explained the differences. He said, “Mail-in ballots are sent and received through the mail while absentee voting is at One-Stop. Both are a form of absentee voting when people vote before Election Day.”

According to the North Carolina Board of Elections website, “One-stop absentee voting (commonly known as “early voting”) allows any registered voter to cast an absentee ballot in person on select days prior to Election Day. Unlike on Election Day, when registered voters can only vote at their specific precinct, one-stop voting allows registered voters to vote at any one-stop absentee voting site in the county.”

This morning, Patrick Gannon with the NC State Board of Elections announced a state board of elections meeting.

The State Board of Elections will hold a telephonic meeting beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020. Members of the public may listen to proceedings by dialing (631) 992-3221 and entering the access code 509-510-708. Public meeting materials will be posted on a rolling basis to the meeting portal
