Although an exact date has not been set, Bladen County athletes may get to begin workouts soon in preparation for the 2020-2021 high school sports season.

At Monday night’s virtual meeting of the Bladen County Board of Education, West Bladen Athletic Director Travis Pait presented a report from a meeting held last week that included Pait, East Bladen Athletic Director Patty Evers, West Bladen and East Bladen principals Dr. Peggy Hester and Dr. Jason Wray, Superintendent Robert Taylor and county athletics director Dr. Robert Heavenridge.

Workouts are expected to resume in October, but Pait shared that coaches want to be able to see their kids and have them workout. No firm date has been set yet for the high school students to return to school.

The North Carolina Athletic Association has set November 4th as the date that volleyball and cross country can begin practice. Games can be held as early as November 16th. Basketball practices can start on December 7th with games beginning January 4th.

Coach Pait said that the schools will know more about athletic schedules on October 5th.
