East Bladen High School announced on their twitter account @EBHSathletics Tuesday that seniors Kayleigh Raynor and Zach Meares will be continuing their academic and athletic careers at the college level.

Raynor, the ace pitcher for the Lady Eagles since her freshman year, has decided to play softball at Methodist University for the 2021-2022 season. Meares, a standout pitcher and shortstop for the Eagles, has chosen UNC-Pembroke as the place to continue his baseball career in 2021-2022.

“I am thrilled to become a Brave and look forward to the journey! Thanks Coach (Paul) O’Neil and Coach (Jeff) Jefferson!” tweeted Meares @2021Zach. Meares worked out at UNCP camp in Lumberton this weekend and struck out 6 batters in 2 innings.

During the Eagles run to the fourth round of the NCHSAA play-offs in 2019, Meares batted .407 with 7 doubles, 24 runs scored, 5 stolen bases and 9 runs batted in.

In 2019 Raynor struck out 95 batters in 89 innings. At the plate she batted .463 and slammed 5 doubles while scoring 21 runs and driving in 11 runs. The Lady Eagles were limited to 3 games in 2020 before COVID-19 stopped play, but Raynor batted .556 and in the circle struck out 9 batters in 10 innings.
