The percentage of Bladen County positive daily tests decreased a little according to the latest update. The current ratio is now at 9.0%; yesterday, the rate was 9.9%.
Some may think the percentage of positive cases compares the positive cases with the population; however, it does not. According to the last census, the population of Bladen County was 33,000 residents, divide the positive cases by the residents, and the percentage would be around .02%. These metrics are not being used in the North Carolina and Bladen County updates.
The officials are reporting the percentage of positive cases out of the total daily tests given. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services website explains the calculations as follows, “percent positives are calculated using electronically, reported data from NC EDSS only, which is a subset of total test reported, county-level positive rates may be impacted by how many total tests for residents in the county were reported electronically through NC EDSS.”
The Bladen County Health and Human Services Agency released the daily COVID-19 update this afternoon. In the box titled, “Positive Cases”, Bladen County has 810/849 with 74 active cases. Today, the reports show seven local residents are hospitalized. See today’s full report below.
Yesterday Bladen County’s report had a total of 814 positive cases with 72 active COVID-19 cases. According to yesterday’s report there were 11 COVID-19 related hospitalizations. See yesterday’s report below.
In August, NCDHHS stated lab reports since April were errored, causing the state to over-report about 221,000 COVID-19 tests than were performed. Since COVID-19 hit Bladen County, the daily numbers reported have waxed and waned due to data processing variables.

Dr. Duncan, Bladen County Health and Human Services Director, announced there were discussions about Bladen County receiving a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines for the at-risk population in November for the high-risk population and a larger amount of the vaccines in 2021.
