AUBURN, AL – Tar Heel native Brandon Council played a key role on the offensive line Saturday as his No. 8 Auburn Tigers opened their season with a 29-13 Southeastern Conference victory over No. 23 Kentucky.

“It was amazing!” said Council. “I got to represent Bladen County and get a big-time win with this amazing team.”

Council who is believed to be the first person from Bladen County to play football for an SEC school started the game at right guard but moved over to left guard at different times during the final 3 quarters. While at left guard he had to block 6-4, 357-pound Kentucky senior Quinton Bohanna who did not record a tackle in the game.

The West Bladen grad played all 57 offensive snaps for the Tigers who racked up 233 yards passing and 324 total yards. Quarterback Bo Nix threw for 3 touchdowns and was sacked only one time for a 1-yard loss.

The Tigers, now 1-0, will travel to Athens, GA Saturday night to battle the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs.
