All United States and North Carolina flags have been lowered in November to honor U.S. service members who have passed away this month.  

U.S. Coast Guard Ensign Morgan Garrett

The United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities were lowered to half-staff until sunset on Monday, November 2, 2020, in honor of North Carolina native, U.S. Coast Guard Ensign Morgan Garrett. Originally from Weddington, North Carolina, Ensign Garrett and U.S. Navy Lt. Rhiannon Ross of Wixom, Michigan, passed away during a routine training flight from Florida on Friday.

Garrett was a graduate of Weddington High School in Union County. In 2019, she graduated from the Coast Guard Academy, where she served as a regimental activities officer.

U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 3, Dallas Gearld Garza

All U.S. and N.C. flags at state facilities were lowered to half-staff beginning November 16, 2020 until sunset on Friday, November 20, 2020 in honor of North Carolina native, U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 3, Dallas Gearld Garza, who passed away in a helicopter accident with four other Americans in Sinai, Egypt on Thursday. 

Sgt. 1st Class Nikyisha T. Boyd

Governor Roy Cooper also ordered all U.S. and N.C. flags to be lowered to half-staff on November 12, 2020, until sunset on Monday, November 16, 2020, in honor of Fort Bragg soldier Sgt. 1st Class Nikyisha T. Boyd, who passed away in a traffic incident.
