BLADENBORO – St. Pauls withstood a furious West Bladen rally in the deciding set and escaped with a 2-1 victory Friday in Three Rivers Conference junior varsity volleyball action by set scores of 25-21, 24-26 and 15-12.

The Lady Bulldogs raced to an 11-2 lead in the 3rd set before Makayla Wright hammered in a kill and 2 service points to trim the margin to 11-5. Kaitlyn Brisson fired in a pair of service points, and Trinity Meares knocked in a kill then tipped in a winner to slice the lead to 13-9.

Wright spiked in a kill, and Kylie Durden rallied the Lady Knights to within 14-12 with a pair of service points, before St. Pauls won the match on the next point.

Wright racked up 5 kills, 5 aces and 4 other service points. Brisson led the Lady Knight servers with 8 service points that included 2 aces. Meares smacked in 6 service points that included 2 aces.

Kayla Norris poured in 7 service points that included an ace. Durden drilled in 2 aces and 4 other service points. Madilyn Walters slammed in 2 aces and a service point.

Norris reeled off 4 straight service points that included an ace to whittle an early St. Pauls lead to 12-10 in the first set. Wright pulled the Lady Knights to within 20-19 with an ace and a service point, but a 5-2 Lady Bulldog spurt claimed the set.

A pair of Norris service points edged West ahead 6-5 in Set 2. Wright blasted in a trio of aces that pushed the lead to 10-6. Brisson kept the Lady Knights up 13-11 with a pair of service points. Meares stretched the lead to 16-12 with an ace and a service point.

Wright pounded in a kill, and Durden contributed a service point as the West lead grew to 19-15. Wright belted in an ace and a service point to push the lead to 22-16. Durden ended a 5-0 St. Pauls run with a diving return winner that kept the Lady Knights ahead 23-21. St. Pauls vaulted back in front 24-23, but Brisson served out the match delivering an ace on set point.

The Lady Knight jayvees are now 2-4 in the TRC and 4-5 overall. West Bladen will host South Columbus on January 4th.
