KERNERSVILLE – East Bladen senior A. J. Smith placed 61st and sophomore teammate Cate DeVane finished 67th in their respective races in the NCHSAA Class 2A State Cross Country Championships Friday at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex.

Smith completed the boys’ race with a time of 18:48.95.  The winning time for state champion Walter Sellers of Winston-Salem Atkins was 15:40.86.

DeVane was clocked in 24:20.30 in the girls race. Senior Angie Allen of North Lincoln defended her 2019 individual state title in 18:05.50.  North Lincoln won both the boys and girls state team titles.

There were 100 runners in the boys’ race that was conducted in two 50-person heats. Ninety-four girls competed in the girls’ race that was divided into 2 heats.
