TABOR CITY – Seniors Javant McDowell and Rasean McKoy combined for 28 points Tuesday night to lead East Bladen to a 59-30 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over South Columbus.

 

McDowell muscled in a pair of 1st quarter baskets, and sophomore guard Malcolm Bolden flipped in a basket and a free throw. Junior Nazir Smith dropped in a basket, and senior Freddy Wooten cashed in 2 free throws as the Eagles built a 12-6 lead.

 

McKoy took charge in the 2nd quarter knocking down a 3-point shot and pumping in 3 other baskets. Smith popped in a pair of baskets, and senior Charles Brown sank a basket and 2 free throws. Bolden nailed a 3-point shot, and McDowell powered in a basket during the 22-2 run that produced a 34-8 halftime lead.

 

McDowell and McKoy worked the paint for 3rd period baskets, and senior Jacob Priest canned a free throw to keep the Eagle lead at 39-18.

 

McDowell battled inside for 3 baskets and a free throw in the final quarter. Wooten drained a 3-point shot and a free throw, and Priest threw in a pair of baskets. McKoy netted another basket, and Brown hit a free throw.

 

McDowell led all scorers with 15 points, and McKoy was right behind him with 13. Smith totaled 8 points, and Wooten and Bolden added 6 points each. Freshman Domnick Johnson led the Stallions with 10 points.

 

Coach Aking Elting’s Eagles evened their conference record at 1-1 and improved to 4-1 overall. East Bladen will host Red Springs Friday night.

 

East Bladen’s jayvees won their game to improve to 3-1 on the season.
