With the help of community sponsors and support, the Bladen County Animal Control Advisory Board presented a donation to the Dr. N.W. Midyette Animal Shelter (Bladen County Animal Control and Shelter), located on Smith Circle in Elizabethtown. The $5,150 donation was made possible due to the Bladen County Christmas Pet Costume Contest Fundraiser’s support on BladenOnline.com.

Chairman of the Bladen County Animal Control Advisory Board, Mike Jackson, presented the donation today to the shelter’s Director Karen Suggs.

Mrs. Suggs said, “We are extremely excited and very thankful for the Bladen County advisory board for organizing this fundraiser and for those who participated. It will be a great benefit to our shelter animals.”

Mr. Jackson praised the shelter staff for the improvements made at their facility. He said, “They have utilized funds to make improvements to the facility continually, and they will make more improvements with the money raised from this fundraiser.”

He explained the fundraiser was exceptional due to pet owners’ and sponsors’ participation. He said, “We are grateful for the support, and the board plans to make it an annual event.”

Between December 28th and 29th, over 800 votes were cast for the 20 pets featured in the competition.
