LAKE WACCAMAW – Senior Garrett Melvin and sophomore Malcolm Bolden both recorded ‘Hat Tricks’ of 3 goals each Wednesday as East Bladen rolled to a 9-0 Three Rivers Conference boys’ soccer victory over East Columbus.

 

It was the 3rd ‘Hat Trick’ of the season for Melvin who had scored 4 goals in earlier victories over East Columbus and West Columbus. Bolden was playing his first soccer game of the season after being a starter on the Eagle basketball team that finished their season Saturday night.

 

Senior Will Hester, junior Joel Johnson and freshman Zac Metz fired in one goal each for the winners. Senior Jacob Priest recorded his 4th shutout in goal for East Bladen.

Metz opened the scoring with the 1st goal of his high school career off an assist from Bolden in the 20th minute. Seven minutes later Hester turned a feed from Chase Starkloff into the 2nd Eagle goal.

Bolden banged in his 1st goal of the game off of an assist from Hester as the East lead grew to 3-0. Two minutes later Bolden scored again off of assists from Starkloff and Melvin.

In the 35th minute, Johnson turned an assist from Drew Sholar into a goal. A minute later Melvin tallied his 1st goal off of an assist from Johnson. Bolden completed his ‘Hat Trick’ and pushed the Eagle lead to 7-0 in the 38th minute with a goal off an assist from Hester.

Three minutes into the 2nd half Melvin knocked in an unassisted goal. Melvin fired in his 3rd goal in the 78th minute off of an assist from Freddy Wooten.

Starkloff and Hester finished with 2 assists each, and Bolden, Melvin, Sholar, Johnson and Wooten had one assist each. 

Coach Jay Raynor’s Eagles improved to 1-0 in league play and 4-0 overall and will host unbeaten St. Pauls Friday at 3:30.
