ST PAULS – Sophomore Laney Autry fired in 2 goals to lead a 4-goal West Bladen explosion in the 2nd half that propelled the Lady Knights to a 5-0 non-conference girls’ soccer victory Wednesday night over St. Pauls.

Sophomore Kaden Thurman raced to the goal and opened the Lady Knight scoring with an unassisted goal in the 3rd minute of play. The next 37 minutes were scoreless as the Lady Knights maintained the 1-0 lead.

“Our ladies struggled to create opportunities up top, and our defense held on,” said West Bladen Coach Kristen Parker. “However, everyone showed up in the second half.”

Autry found the back of the net off of a pass from sophomore Makayla Wright to begin the 2nd half. The two teamed up again as Autry sent a pass to Wright who banged in the goal for a 3-0 lead.

Autry broke loose again and delivered an unassisted goal that grew the lead to 4-0. Freshman Eliana Padilla punched in the final West Bladen goal.

“Defensively the entire team contributed to limiting St. Pauls scoring opportunities and helping Tazshea Greene record her first shutout,” stated Parker. “Thanks to our supporters who traveled with us this evening.”

Greene, a sophomore, was credited with 2 saves as she played the entire 80 minutes in goal.

The Lady Knights, now 1-1, will host East Columbus Monday at 5:30.
