The regular Elizabethtown Optimist Club meeting was last night, Monday evening and Chuck Heustess with Economic Development was their speaker. The club meets the second and fourth Monday at 6:30 pm every month.

Heustess spoke about the big employers in our county and how Bladen County and the world benefits from these employers. Some of the employers he spoke about were Smithfield, Kuraray, DuPont, Danaher, and Chemorus.

Dickie Glenn, a member of the Elizabethtown Optimist Club said, “Everything we do is in relationship to youth. Chuck spoke about increasing the industry in our county. If we can increase the industry, we can help the children. If the parents can get jobs we can help the children that way.”

Currently the club is looking for new members according to Glenn who has been a member of the club for 30 years. He explained the club funds go to helping the Boys and Girls Home, three different sports with the Bladen County Recreation Department and more. One of the goals right now of the club is to gain new members Glenn said.

If you want to get involved in the community and help the youth you are invited to join the Elizabethtown Optimist Club. For more information join them for a dinner meeting on the second or fourth Monday of the month at San Jose Restaurant. The meeting begins at 6:30 pm.
