ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen defeated Whiteville 11-4 Tuesday in the Three Rivers Conference junior varsity baseball opener for both schools.

The Eagles opened the scoring with a pair of 1st inning runs as leadoff batter Marlen Davis and Weston Hatcher both reached base. An error scored both runners.

Tyler Johnson belted a 3rd inning single that scored Davis who had advanced to 2nd base on a passed ball.

The Eagles broke the game open with an 8-run, 4th-inning explosion. Britt Sasser walked, and Darius Williamson cracked a single. Parker Greene reached base on an error that scored Sasser, and Lee Barnes knocked in Williamson with a single.

Coleman Tatum reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Davis walked, before Johnson hammered a double that brought home Barnes and Tatum. Hatcher reached on an error that scored Davis and Johnson, Hatcher dashed home on a passed ball.

Zamar Lewis slammed a double and darted home when Greene reached on an error.

Tatum pitched the 1st 4 innings for the Eagles to pick up the win, and Sasser relieved and worked the final inning.

Davis scored 3 runs. Johnson batted 2-for-3 with a double. Lewis smashed a double, and Williamson and Barnes connected for 1 hit each.

Coach Kenzil McCall’s Eagles will host West Columbus Wednesday at 4 p.m.
