BLADENBORO – Nakina snapped a 5-5 tie with 9-run, 3rd inning explosion en route to a 19-9 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory over Bladenboro Tuesday.

The Lady Mustangs capitalized on 12 walks, 5 hit batters, 5 errors and 5 hits to score their 19 runs. Nakina tallied 4 runs in the 1st inning, but Bladenboro answered with a pair in the bottom half. Leea Wilkins swatted a single to rightfield, and Marlie Walters slammed a double to center that scored Wilkins. Marly Crabtree’s sacrifice fly brought home Walters.

Natalie Sykes hammered a double to left to start the Bladenboro 2nd inning. Gracie Todd knocked in Sykes with a single to left. Wilkins yanked a single to left, and Walters drove in Todd and Wilkins with a single that tied the game 5-5.

Crabtree reached base on an error in the 3rd inning and came around to score on singles by Kali Allen and Kallie Bass. Walters blasted a triple to the fence in left-center field in the 4th inning, and Holland Davis and Allen drew walks. Sykes smashed a double that scored Walters and Davis and trimmed the Nakina lead to 16-8.

Walters reached on a fielder’s choice in the Bladenboro 5th and raced home on Davis’ single. Walters finished 3-4 at the plate with a triple, a double and 2 runs scored. Wilkins batted 3-for-4 and scored a run. Sykes walloped 2 doubles and scored a run. Davis was also 2-for-3 with a run scored. Allen, Bass and Todd added one hit each.

Crabtree, Allen and Bass shared the pitching duties for Bladenboro. The Lady Bulldogs, now 1-1, will travel to Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday.
