From time to time I get up enough nerve to go into the attic and pull down a cardboard box filled with who knows what and add the contents to a cluttered office already filled with baseball cards, all types of caps, old Beckett magazines, a pool table and the former headquarters of BladenOnline….

My last box was a little like hitting a ‘jackpot.” In my younger days I was employed and later owned WBLA radio station and coached little league baseball…

We named Bladen County all-star teams for many years and Jim Freeman, owner and operator of Freeman Pharmacy in Dublin, teamed up with us and sponsored a banquet and a miniature trophy….to those selected…It was fun…at least for me, hopefully for others as well….

I will be using some of the info from that latest box……

1969-70 All Bladen Men’s Basketball Team:

Derrick Austin—–Bladen Central

Mark Little—–Clarkton High

Otis Newkirk—-East Arcadia

Randolph McLean—-East Arcadia

Audrey White—-Booker T. Washington

If my math is good, all of these former Bladen County All-Stars are 60+ years old….

The news release stated that the All Star Banquet was planned for “later next month” and would include football, baseball, track and golfers.

Hope I can locate all……

I do have some info on many teams… Found a “goody box.”
