People come to Jones Lake State Park in Bladen County from near and far. Park officials offer many educational programs at the beloved State property throughout the year. Jennifer G. Melvin with Jones Lake State Park announced the agenda at the park for the upcoming month.

January 8th, 1 pm 

Snakes 

Ever wonder what snakes’ species are at home in eastern North Carolina? Which ones are venomous? Join a park ranger at the Visitor Center in exploring the various snakes in this area and the other unique species found throughout our great state. Participants should meet at the Jones Lake State Park Visitor Center at 1 pm. Call the park office @ (910) 588-4550 for more information. This event is free of charge and open to the public.

January 15th, 2 pm 

Butterflies 

What are the life stages of a butterfly? How can I make my own butterfly

garden? Join a park ranger for an informative PowerPoint program about butterflies and how to attract them to your own yard. Participants should meet at the Jones Lake State Park Visitor Center at 2 pm. This program is free to the public, and if you have any questions, please get in touch with the park office at (910) 588-4550.

January 22nd, 1 pm 

Carolina Bay Hike 

Join a park ranger for a hike through the bay forest at Jones Lake State Park and learn why this environment is unique. Discussion on the hike will include flora and fauna of the forest, and why Carolina Bays are important. Participants should meet at the visitor center at 1 pm for this program. Please bring water and hiking shoes. This event is free of charge and is open to the public; contact the park office at (910) 588-4550.
