Sheriff James A. McVicker is proud to announce the results of the 2021 Bladen County Sheriff’s Office promotion process. These individuals are leaders within the Sheriff’s Office and have earned promotions due to their experience, skill, and leadership. Their dedication to Bladen County should be commended and celebrated as they begin this new challenge.

The Honorable Giles R. Clark, retired Superior Court Judge, presided over a promotional ceremony on December 30, in the Superior Court room of the Bladen County Courthouse. Sheriff’s Office staff, friends and family members attended to celebrate the promotions.

The individuals who have earned promotions this year are:

  • Captain Daniel Clark
  • Chief Jailer William Dove
  • Lieutenant James White
  • 1 st Sergeant James Monroe
  • Sergeant Aaron Brisson
  • Sergeant Tramain Harvey
  • Sergeant Hester Kilpatrick
  • Sergeant Trent Lewis
  • Sergeant Matt Long
  • Detective Sergeant Jennifer Popynick
  • Corporal Matt Bryant
  • Corporal Al Coleman
  • Corporal Owen Peavy
  • Corporal Taylor Townsend

All applicants for these positions completed a comprehensive promotion process. This year the Sheriff’s Office partnered with an external consulting agency,  Onyx Talent Solutions, to create the promotion testing process. Dr. Unber Ahmad and her team at Onyx were brought in to create an objective system to give each applicant a fair chance to compete for promotion. Onyx worked closely with members of the Sheriff’s Office to understand the specific needs in the county and create a customized process.

The process allowed candidates to demonstrate their relevant experiences, job knowledge, communications skills, and leadership potential. All candidates were scored by expert raters from outside of Bladen County to minimize any potential bias. The candidates with the highest overall scores were chosen for promotion.

Sheriff McVicker is dedicated to ensuring the safety of the citizens of Bladen County and believes these newly promoted individuals will serve citizens with professionalism, dedication, and empathy.
