BLADENBORO – Natalee Sykes sparked a 2nd half rally that carried Bladenboro to a 17-11 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls’ basketball victory over Elizabethtown Tuesday.

Sykes led the Lady Bulldog scoring with 11 points. Bladenboro trailed 7-5 at halftime, but Sykes and Kali Allen tossed in baskets to tie the score 9-9 at the 3rd quarter break.

Sykes buried a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw in the final period. Allen tacked on a basket during Bladenboro’s 8-2 closing run. Mariah Ward and Nia McKoy pumped in 2nd half baskets for the Lady Cougars.

Allen followed Sykes with 4 points for Bladenboro. Ariel Cromartie topped the Elizabethtown scoring list with 7 points.

Cromartie drained a 3-point shot and threw in 2 other baskets as Elizabethtown built the halftime lead. Sykes bombed in a 1st period 3-ball, and Angelina Jones dropped in a  basket to keep the Lady Bulldogs close.

It was the season opener for Coach Otis Evans’ Lady Bulldogs who will travel to Tabor City Wednesday. The Lady Cougars, now 0-2, will host Tar Heel Thursday.
