BLADENBORO – West Bladen pounded out 13 hits and broke the game open with an 8-run 2nd inning en route to a 17-7 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over Fairmont Friday night.

Junior Rylee Chadwick made her 1st start at shortstop for the Lady Knights since returning from a finger injury and banged out 3 hits including a double and drove in 5 runs. Junior Mackenzie Singletary batted 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs batted in. Her courtesy runner, Megan Pait, scored 3 runs.

Lady Knight junior Kaitlynn Brisson finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Junior Kylie Durden batted 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Gracie Faircloth hammered a 2-run double and scored 3 runs.

Junior Madison Taylor, sophomore Emmee Ward and sophomore Lena Trinidad connected for 1 hit each. Taylor and Ward scored 3 runs each, Trinidad scored 2 runs, and Chadwick scored 1 run. Taylor drove in 2 runs, and Ward, senior Jessalynn Vendrick and Trinidad drove in 1 run each.

Durden pitched 4-plus innings to pick up the win allowing 6 runs – 4 earned – on 7 hits and 2 walks. Taylor pitched an inning of relief and gave no hits and an unearned run.

Chadwick and Taylor smashed 2-run singles during the Lady Knights 8-run, 2nd inning, and Faircloth slugged her 2-run double to cap the inning. Chadwick drilled a 2-run double to left-center field in the 4th inning, and Trinidad delivered an RBI single as the West lead grew to 12-2.

Durden, Ward and Chadwick highlighted the Lady Knights’ 5th inning with run-scoring singles. Chadwick’s hit scored Trinidad and ended the game on the mercy rule.

Haleigh Jackson batted 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored to lead the Fairmont hitters. Aiyana Oxendine slammed a 2-run double.

Coach Pam Stephens’ Lady Knights improved to 3-1 in league play and 4-7 overall and will travel to Red Springs Tuesday.
