BLADENBORO – South Brunswick built a 9-1 lead en route to a 10-4 non-conference softball victory over West Bladen Wednesday night.

Freshman Kina Davis batted 4-for-4 and scored twice to lead the South hitters. Junior Olivia Rogers finished 2-for-4 with a double and 2 runs batted in. Freshman Kendra Goodwin was 2-for-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Freshman Addison Woodruff slugged a 2-run home run.

The Lady Knights grabbed the early lead as junior Kylie Durden drew a lead-off walk, advanced on a passed ball and raced home when senior Jessalynn Vendrick drilled a double to right-center field.

Junior Mackenzie Singletary ripped a single to left field in the 4th inning, and her courtesy runner Megan Pait circled the bases on bunts by sophomores Emmee Ward and Lena Trinidad.

Trinidad laced a single to left to begin the Lady Knight 7th inning, and junior Rylee Chadwick hammered a double to right field. Durden’s fielder’s choice scored Trinidad, and junior Madison Taylor knocked in Chadwick with a single to right.

Faircloth batted 2-for-3 with a double for the Lady Knights, and Trinidad finished a perfect 2-for-2 with a run scored. Vendrick doubled home a run, and Chadwick doubled and scored a run. Taylor, Durden, Singletary and Ward collected 1 hit each. Durden and Taylor drove in runs, and Durden and Pait scored runs.

Durden started in the circle for West and pitched 2.1 innings allowing 4 runs – 1 earned – on 3 hits and a walk while striking out four. Taylor worked 0.2 innings of relief and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits. Chadwick pitched 4 innings of relief and allowed 3 runs – 2 earned – on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out five.

South junior Haley Kirby pitched 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks to pick up the win. Sophomore Veronica Nation worked the final 3 innings in relief giving up 2 runs on 4 hits.

West Bladen, now 5-8, will host Red Springs Friday night.
