The National Weather Service of Wilmington announced a slight risk (2 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for coastal zones.
*Locally higher gusts possible near thunderstorms.

Highlights of the Severe Weather Briefing:

  • A cold front will bring a Slight Risk (2 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms this afternoon/evening for all of northeast SC and mainly inland portions of southeast NC. The primary threat is from damaging thunderstorm wind gusts to 60 mph. An isolated tornado is also possible.
  • Rainfall will range from 0.5-1″ generally west of I-95, with lesser amounts east of I-95.
  • Gusty non-thunderstorm winds are expected with gusts of 35 to 40 mph, highest in coastal areas where a Wind Advisory is in effect.
  • Gale Warning is in effect for adjacent coastal waters, and a High Surf Advisory is in effect from Murrells Inlet, SC, to Surf City, NC.
  • The front will move away from the coast tonight, and Friday will be warm, clear, and dry, with wind gusts to 25 mph.
