Spread the love

The weather was perfect, and the people poured in downtown Bladenboro for the annual Spring Fling. Beauty Queens, families, friends, politicians, young and old, took advantage of the festivities.

Boost the Boro, Inc., President Terry Nance, welcomed the large group of festival-goers at 10 am on Saturday, April 2, 2022. Bladen County native Hailey Hall gave a patriotic rendition of the National Anthem as the Fire Department Color Guard presented the Colors.

Claudette Guy with Boost the Boro said there were more food and craft vendors this year. Over 40 vendors lined the parking lots at First Citizens Bank and the downtown square. The vendors said it was a profitable day for them.

The event’s Emcee, Dan Allen, kept the entertainers on schedule for the day. Adults and children took to the dance floor as the music played.

According to Joyce Walters with Boost the Boro, there was a full lineup of local entertainment: The Band “Recovery,” Tenley Dowless, Carolina Karate, Kennedy & Christian Johnson, Kaitlin Davis & “Cooper,” Nora Chadwick, God’s Girls, Terry Goodwin, Lauren Clark Hester, Katie Strickland, Nick Peavy, Rodney Lowe, and Len Dallas performed. To round out the entertainment for the evening, the band Bounce made foot-stomping, dance music.

The Pound Cake and Hula Hoop Contests had many entries making all involved smile. Local business owner Kelly Barefoot with Barefoot Brew was one of the first in line once the pound cakes were cut and slices were ready for purchase.

Miss Dunn drew a lot of children to a tent offering Science experiments which kept them intrigued.

Miss Dunn, Abby Britt explained, “We had discussions about molecules, surface tension, and how we can use everyday household items to create fun science experiments!”

On her social media page, she added, “I had such a blast at Bladenboro’s Spring Fling sharing my social impact initiative Give it a S.H.O.T.: Promoting Hands-on Science Training! A huge thank you to the Allens (Dan and Sunday Allen) for inviting me to run a science experiment table for the kids in attendance!”
