CLINTON – Clinton exploded for 9 runs in the 5th inning to break open a 3-2 game and capture a 12-2 mercy rule victory over West Bladen Friday night in Southeastern Athletic Conference baseball action.

Seven walks, a pair of 2-run singles by Blake Smith and Hayden Boney and an error that plated 2 runs ended the game.

Clinton grabbed an early 3-0 lead. A hit batter, a walk and a passed ball started the 1st inning, before senior Blake Smith drilled a triple to right, and freshman Jaxson Smith drove him in with a single.

West Bladen answered with 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Senior Brycen Blackmon slapped a single to right field, and senior Alex Brisson reached base on an error. Senior Alex Strange’s fielder’s choice plated Blackmon, and Brisson dashed home on a passed ball.

Blackmon and Brisson both singled and scored runs to lead the Knight hitters. Alex Strange drove in a run. Junior Garrison Carr started and pitched 4-plus innings and gave up 4 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks with 3 strike-outs. Brisson gave up 4 runs on 3 walks and a hit. Freshman Garrett Dunham allowed 3 runs – 2 earned – on 3 walks, and senior Bryley Williams gave up a hit and a run.

Sophomore Dawson Smith pitched a 5-inning complete game for the Dark Horses, giving up 2 unearned runs on 2 hits and 5 walks while striking out six. Blake Smith batted 2-for-3 with a triple, 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Boney, Jaxson Smith and Alex Evans connected for 1 hit each. Evans and Boney contributed 2 RBIs.

West Bladen, now 6-14, will host West Columbus Thursday night in a non-conference game.
