McDuffie Pest Control is a family business that has been operating in Elizabethtown since it all started, thanks to Walter McDuffie. Walter, a graduate of NC State with a lifelong interest in agriculture, wildlife, and bugs, became a small business owner in 1964. After a year of performing pest control and termite treatments alone, he decided to hire an employee to help. That employee, Dallas Hammond, is still on the team today.
“Walter has always strived to be honest and make an honest living by providing pest control services to protect homes and businesses. Honesty is still the focus for the McDuffie Pest Control team today. The business is still owned by Walter McDuffie but is managed by his daughter Dana McDuffie and her husband Brett Pool,” according to management at McDuffie Pest Control.

Management at McDuffie Pest control shared, “We have overcome many growing pains and challenges through the years and now have 16 full time team members.”
In order to not only survive, but thrive, small businesses owners must remain diligent and persevere throughout their journey running a business. Times change, people change, businesses change, and small business owners have to work extra hard to keep up and remain relevant throughout the test of time. With nearly 60 years of good business under their belt, McDuffie Pest Control has obviously done something right!
How does McDuffie Pest Control give back to the community?
“We give back to the community in many ways such as helping support local youth ball teams, Bladen We Care, local church fundraisers and local Boy Scouts club. Our team members love packing shoe boxes every year for Operation Christmas Child and try to outdo the previous year. Our 2021 packing event ended up with 40 shoeboxes.”
Lastly, management at McDuffie Pest Control shared, “We are in our new office at 2900 E. Broad Street, Elizabethtown, NC 28337. It is beside our old office that we operated out of for 40 years. Our regular hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. We are always looking for new quality team members.
