East Bladen High SchoolEast Bladen’s Eagles continue their long-time rivalry with Whiteville’s Wolfpack tonight in the Eagles home opener at Lenon Fisher Stadium.

East Bladen has won 3 of their last 4 meetings against the Wolfpack and 7 of the last 10. A year ago Farrell Murchison ran for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 28-19 East Bladen victory. In that game the Eagles held a 63-30 advantage in offensive snaps and had a 33-15 edge in time of possession.

Some of the names have changed for Coach Robby Priest’s Eagles, but the Eagles rode that same ball-control offense to a 36-6 victory over South Columbus Saturday night at Vinegar Hill.

Against the Stallions the Eagles dominated the statistics with a 413-172 edge in rushing yards, and a 58-36 advantage in offensive snaps. East Bladen scored on 5 of 7 offensive possessions.

Junior Ethan Hines topped the East Bladen runners with 142 yards and 2 touchdowns on 17 carries. His twin brother Eian Hines ran for 134 yards, a touchdown and a 2-point conversion in 15 attempts. Fullback Nikita Owens rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on 15 rushes.

Star running back Terrin Manning has departed via graduation from last year’s Whiteville team, but speedy quarterback Nydir Carr returns to direct the Wolfpack offense. Sophomore Keshawn Bellamy has been the top choice to fill Manning’s shoes.

A big stout defense anchors the Whiteville team. Linebacker Andrew Powell was selected to some of the pre-season All-State teams. Other defensive leaders include senior Garrett Wilson and sophomore Monchovia Gaffney.

One other interesting sideline note – Wolfpack Head Coach Luke Little is the son of East Bladen defensive coordinator Mark Little.
