DYB District 9 AA (Coach Pitch) Tournament: Elizabethtown Splits Pair Saturday

LUMBERTON –Elizabethtown split their 1st 2 games Saturday in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 AA (Coach Pitch) Tournament at Northeast Park. Elizabethtown rolled past Lumberton Gold 23-2 then dropped a 15-6 decision to West Robeson National. Elizabethtown will play Fairmont in an elimination game Sunday at 4 p.m.

Elizabethtown 23, Lumberton Gold 2

Elizabethtown exploded for 6 runs in the 1st inning Friday night before the weather stopped play. Mark McMichael blasted a triple, and Baylor Gooden, Cooper Clark, Kai Smeigh and Finn Johnson followed with hits.

Conner Cain slammed a double, and Zaveone Rogers and Jake Hilton reached base. McMichael, Gooden, Clark, Smeigh, Johnson and Cain all scored runs in the inning.

When play resumed Saturday, Tyson Powell, McMichael, Gooden, Smeigh and Johnson all cracked hits in the 2nd inning. Tony Robinson walloped a triple, and Cain reached base. Powell, McMichael, Gooden, Smeigh, Johnson and Robinson scored runs as the Elizabethtown lead grew to 12-1.

Jake Hilton smacked a single in the 3rd inning, and Chason Nielson, McMichael and Gooden reached base, before Clark cleaned the bases with a triple. Hilton, Nielson, McMichael and Gooden all scored to extend the lead to 16-2.

Johnson, Robinson, Cain, Rogers, Hilton, Neilson, Aidan Lowery, McMichael and Gooden all reached base in the 4th inning. Johnson, Robinson, Cain, Rogers, Hilton, Neilson and Lowery all scored runs to push the lead to 23-2.

West Robeson National 15, Elizabethtown 6

West Robeson National exploded for 6 runs in the 5th inning to break open a close game and post a 15-6 victory over Elizabethtown Saturday afternoon.

Mark McMichael drilled a double to start a 3-run Elizabethtown 1st inning. Baylor Gooden, Cooper Clark and Kai Smeigh all reached base. McMichael, Gooden and Clark scored.

West Robeson battled back to take a 7-3 lead before Elizabethtown rallied with 3 runs in the 4th inning. Finn Johnson ripped a 2-out double, Tony Robinson laced a single and Conner Cain pounded a double. Zaveone Rogers clobbered a triple, and Johnson, Robinson and Cain all scored to trim the West Robeson lead to 7-6.

West Robeson tacked on 2 runs in the 4th inning to pad the lead to 9-6.
