ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s Lady Eagle jayvees claimed their 4th consecutive volleyball win Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over Fairmont by set scores of 25-20 and 25-19.

Sophomore Iveonna “NeNe” Ward opened the match by winning 4 straight service points, but Fairmont answered with 4 service points of their own and the 2 teams traded points until they were tied at 20-20. The Lady Eagles won a side-out, and sophomore Mary Frances Sutton served out the set with 4 straight service points.

Ward captured a pair of early service points in the 2nd set before freshman Jenna Brice pounded in 4 straight serves to push East in front 8-2. Service points from Ward, sophomore Mollie Tolar, Zoe Smith and sophomore Martha Simmons kept the Lady Eagles up 22-15. After a pair of side-outs, Jenna Brice served out the match at 25-19.

Ward tallied 9 service points, 1 ace and had 3 attacks. Tolar filled up the stat sheet with 6 attacks, 2 kills, 3 blocks, 4 service points and 1 ace. Sutton hammered in 8 attacks, 4 service points and 2 kills.

Simmons knocked in 4 attacks, 3 kills, 3 service points and 2 aces. Jenna Brice drilled in an ace and 5 service points. Smith contributed 2 attacks, a kill and a service point. Molly Evans chalked up 2 attacks and a dig, and Bridget Taylor had 1 dig.

Coach Jessica Eason’s Lady Eagles raised their record to 3-1 in SAC-7 play and 6-4 overall. They will visit Red Springs Tuesday.
