BLADENBORO – Kendell Lesane ran for 149 yards and 4 touchdowns, and Jaquan Lesane came up with 3 key 2nd half turnovers as Bladenboro rallied for a 32-20 Waccamaw Middle School Conference football victory over Clarkton School of Discovery at John Frazier Field Tuesday night.

Four turnovers – 3 fumbles and a pass interception – plagued the Blue Devil offense. Clarkton led 12-6 late in the 2nd quarter and drove 67 yards in 5 plays before losing a fumble that was recovered by Bladenboro in the end zone.

The Blue Devils then fumbled the 2nd half kickoff, and Jaquan Lesane recovered at the Clarkton 29 yard line. Kendell Lesane bolted 29 yards up the middle for the tying touchdown on the next play.

Clarkton answered with a 60-yard drive in 6 plays. Nayshawn Jones darted 10 yards, before Casey Wilder threw a 28-yard pass to Zarian Willis to convert a 4th-and-13 play. Wilder raced 25 yards on a draw play for the CSD touchdown then carried for the 2-point conversion and a 20-12 lead with 1:23 left in the 3rd quarter.

Back came the Bulldogs with their own 6-play, 60-yard drive. Sincere McKinley dashed 15 yards for a 1st down, and Kendell Lesane scampered 15 yards for the touchdown with 4:08 left in the game. A fumble foiled the conversion, and Clarkton was still up 20-18.

On the 1st play after recovering a Bulldog onside kick, the Blue Devils gained 15 yards before fumbling the ball. Jaquan Lesane scooped up the fumble and flew 72 yards down the left sideline for the go-ahead touchdown, eluding the last defender with a nifty hesitation cutback move at the 25 yard line to put the Bulldogs on top 24-20 with 3:33 on the clock.

Wilder picked up 31 yards on 2 carries as the Blue Devils reached the Bladenboro 48. Moments later Jaquan Lesane made a leaping interception of a 4th down Clarkton pass and returned it 24 yards to the Bulldog 49 yard line.

After taking 3 consecutive knees to milk the clock, Kendell Lesane blasted through the line on 4th down and galloped 51 yards for the clinching touchdown. Lesane also ran the 2-point conversion to boost the lead to 32-20 with 25 seconds left.

Kendell Lesane rushed 14 times to gain his 149 yards and scored on runs of 4, 29, 15 and 51 yards. Teammate Sincere McKinley gained 31 yards on 7 plays. Jaquan Lesane totaled 96 yards of return yardage.

Wilder led the Clarkton attack rushing for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns and completing a pass for 28 yards. Wilder scored on runs of 4, 1 and 25 yards and also added a 2-point conversion. Jones finished with 68 yards rushing on 7 attempts for the Blue Devils.

Wilder was the workhorse of the Blue Devils opening touchdown drive ripping off runs of 24, 13, 8, and 5 yards before powering into the end zone from 4 yards out to put Clarkton ahead 6-0. Jones set up the touchdown with a 14-yard run.

Jones intercepted a Bulldog pass and returned the ball 44 yards to the Bladenboro 8 yard line. Jones picked up 7 yards before Wilder barreled into the end zone from a yard out for the touchdown and a 12-0 lead 7:26 before halftime.

The Bulldogs answered with a 9-play, 49-yard scoring drive. Kendell Lesane started the drive with a 19-yard run, picked up 10 yards on another run then bulled into the end zone from 4 yards out on a 4th down play for the touchdown that trimmed the margin to 12-6 with 2:41 on the 1st half clock.

Coach Tim Benton’s Bulldogs completed their season with a 2-4 record, while Clarkton, now 2-3, will host Tar Heel Tuesday night.
