D J MasonClarkton native D. J. Mason fired in 13 points Monday night, and his Campbell Camels rolled to a 78-59 Big South Conference victory over visiting Gardner-Webb.

Mason connected on 5 of 9 shots from the field, grabbed 2 rebounds, dished out 2 assists and blocked a shot.

The 6-6 junior center turned a Kyre Hamer assist into a lay-up and an early 4-0 lead. Mason also contributed a lay-up during a 9-2 Camel run that produced a 34-25 lead later in the half.

Mason sank 2 free throws early in the second half to keep the Campbell lead at 39-33. The West Bladen grad canned a free throw and dropped in two more lay-ups to push the Camel lead to 66-50.

Mason’s final basket of the game widened the Campbell lead to 73-53 with 2:16 remaining.

The Camels will travel to UNC-Asheville Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
