Two Bladen County men charged with murder in separate cases have each made their appearance in Bladen County Superior Court and have had their next court dates set, according to documents.

1022parker_burneyJonathan Parker, 44, (pictured left) appeared before Judge Scott Ussery on Wednesday and had bond set at $5 million. His next court date was set for Nov. 10. He remains in Bladen County Jail.

Marquail Allen Burney, 20, (pictured right) was denied bond in his first court appearance recently and remains in Bladen County Jail. His next court date is Oct. 27.

Parker is charged in the stabbing death Monday, Oct. 19 of 78-year-old John Robert Cole at Cole’s home on West Broad Street in Elizabethtown. Parker was captured about an hour later in a wooded area about one-half mile from the residence, Elizabethtown interim Police Chief Kip Hester said.

Burney is charged in the death of Crystal Dionne Cruz, whose body was found Tuesday, Oct. 13 in a vehicle in the backyard of a residence on N.C. 41 West where both lived, Bladen County Sheriff James McVicker said. Cruz was the fiancee of Marquail Burney’s father, David Burney. Marquail Burney was captured the following morning in Lumberton.
