Victor Garcia and Grayson Clark scored second half goals that lifted Elizabethtown to a 2-1 Bladen Five Middle School Conference Soccer victory Monday night over previously undefeated Tar Heel at County Park.

After a scoreless first half in which both teams had a number of scoring opportunities, Garcia worked his way free and knocked in the first goal of the game with 18 minutes left to play.

With 7 minutes remaining in the game, Clark banged in a header off of Leonardo Vasquez’ corner throw-in that stretched the Cougar lead to 2-0.

Tar Heel’s Brandon Labra broke free and fired in the first Panther goal that trimmed the margin to 2-1 with 4:50 on the clock.

The Panthers thought they had tied the game with a late goal at the 1:30 mark, but an offside call nullified the play, and the Cougars held on.

“Both teams played very hard tonight,” said Tar Heel Athletic Director Andy Clark.

Elizabethtown evened their record at 2-2 and will play East Arcadia at 4 p.m. Tuesday at County Park. Tar Heel is now 4-1 and has an open date Tuesday.
