White Lake Icon

An icon in the town of White Lake was torn down on Monday to make way for multi-family housing.

The building that once housed the likes of Captain Willie’s Restaurant, Lois’ Seafood and Potter Seafood is no more. The building had stood in that location for about 51 years.

Dean Hilton said that in the place of the former restaurant 18 to 20 multi-family housing units will be constructed and the property located adjacent to the site will be developed into single-family housing units.

Hilton said plans are in place to develop a tract of land across the highway from the site to create lake access for the multi-family housing and sing-family units.

Hilton said once the restaurant building is torn down and the debris is removed from the lot, the next steps will include site prep work, water and sewer work, and engineering. He said he hopes to see construction on the project get under way in mid-April.

Kendall Potter, the building’s most recent owner, said the building was originally built in 1964 by Max Lennon.  He purchased the building in 1994 from Bob Lederfind and operated Potter Seafood from 20 years.

“The economy of White Lake didn’t support a seafood menu anymore,” said Potter.

He added he was 25 years old when he purchased the restaurant. “I had it half of my life,” said Potter.

“It was time. I bought Paul H. Sessoms Company in 2014,” said Potter of selling the building.
