Jordan Robinson and Allen Owens blistered the nets with 25 points in the second half as Elizabethtown rode a 41-26 second half surge to a 62-53 boys basketball victory over Tar Heel Tuesday night in a Bladen Five Middle School Conference Tournament semi-final at Bladenboro.

Tar Heel built a 27-21 halftime lead, but Robinson bombed in a 3-point shot and knocked down a trio of 2-point shots in the third period to lead a 21-8 Cougar blitz that vaulted Elizabethtown in front 42-35 at the quarter break.

Owens drained a 3-point shot in the quarter and canned a pair of free throws plus a 2-point shot. Majuan McKoy and Nijeah McKoy netted baskets in the period, and Tyrek Smith made a free throw.

Shemaiah Leak threw in 2 baskets and a free throw in the third quarter for Tar Heel, and teammate Kendall Johnson dropped in a basket and a free throw in the period.

Majuan McKoy pumped in a trio of baskets for the Cougars in the fourth quarter, and Robinson sank 3 free throws and a basket in the period. Owens added a basket and 2 free throws in the period for the winners.

Cody Butler made a basket and a free throw for Elizabethtown in the final quarter, and Nijeah McKoy hit 2 free throws.

Leak lit up the scoreboard with 3 baskets and 2 free throws in the fourth period for Tar Heel. Tyre Boykin delivered a basket and 3 free throws for the Panthers in the final quarter. Johnson banged in a pair of baskets, and Christopher George added a free throw.

Majuan McKoy topped all scorers with 23 points for Elizabethtown, and Robinson poured in 18 points. Owens racked up 13 points for the winners.

Leak led the Panthers with 21 points, and Boykin pumped in 17 points. Johnson followed with 11 points.

The teams battled to an 11-11 first period tie. Boykin heated things up for Tar Heel with a trio of baskets and 2 free throws. Johnson tacked on a basket, and Jadicus Register made a free throw.

Majuan McKoy worked inside for a trio of baskets and a free throw for Elizabethtown, and Robinson and Owens added baskets for the Cougars.

Leak sparked a 16-10 Tar Heel run with a trio of second quarter baskets and 2 free throws. Boykin contributed a basket and 2 free throws, and Johnson and Christopher George added baskets as the Panthers took the 27-21 halftime lead.

Majuan McKoy fired in 4 baskets for Elizabethtown in the second period, and Robinson tacked on a basket.

Elizabethtown improves to 8-1 and advances to Thursday’s 6:30 championship game against Bladenboro. Tar Heel wraps up its season with a 3-7 record.
