The Bladen County Health Department and Safe Kids held an Open House on Thursday evening. Children were thrilled to meet the newest member of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit Jax.

The children were mesmerized by the Belgian Malinois as he showed off his skills finding narcotics and finding lost objects. His handler, Deputy Clark, told those gathered that Jax is about 18 months old.

Also on hand were Mickey and Minnie Mouse. They greeted children in front of the health department and posed for pictures.

The Elizabethtown Fire Department, Bladen County EMS, the Bladen County Public Library’s bookmobile, Bladen County Sheriff’s vehicles were all on display outdoors. Inside the health department there were information booths from the library and other county agencies.

Also Deputy Richard Allen gave a presentation on Methamphetamine use. He told those present the Sheriff’s Office has a text-to-tip line that folks can use to report drug tips. The tips are anonymous said Allen. The email is bladendrugtips@gmail.com and the text a tip number is 910-874-8124.

The Sheriff’s Office also provided child safety seat checks and Melinda’s Twirlers entertained folks with their skills.
