ELIZABETHTOWN – Elizabethtown claimed sole possession of first place in the Bladen Five Middle School Conference baseball standings Wednesday with a 10-5 victory over Bladenboro.
 
The Cougars took charge early as Jordan Robinson slammed a double to leftfield, stole third and scored on an infield out. Pitcher Cody Butler drew a walk, stole a base and scored the second run of the inning.
 
Ethan Johnson reached base on an error, and Jay McKoy walked to begin the Elizabethtown second. Rasean McKoy’s infield out brought home Johnson. Drew Sholar’s sacrifice bunt scored Jay McKoy.
 
Robinson walked, stole second and third base and scored when Zach Meares lined a single to right-centerfield that stretched the Cougar lead to 5-0.
 
Fred Wooten ripped a double to leftfield to start the Cougar third inning. Jay McKoy smacked a single to drive in Wooten. Sholar and Robinson drew walks, before Meares hammered a 2-run triple to left-centerfield that extended the lead to 9-0.
 
Colby White reached on an error to begin the Bulldog fourth. Lant Pait belted a single, and Noah Deaver knocked in White with a single.
 
The Bulldogs closed the gap to 9-5 in the fourth. West led off with a single, and catcher Jake Butler pounded a double to left-centerfield that brought home West.
 
White cracked a single to drive in Butler, and Pait swatted another single to left-centerfield. Braylon Williamson knocked in White with a single to left-centerfield, and Deaver walloped a double to left that scored Pait.
 
The Cougars tacked on an insurance run in the home half of the inning. Rasean McKoy, Sholar and Robinson belted back-to-back singles, and Zach Meares’ fielder’s choice scored Sholar.
 
Cody Butler picked up the win on the mound for Elizabethtown. Cougar pitching struck out 7 batters. White started on the hill Bladenboro. Bulldog pitching struck out 4 batters.
 
Robinson batted 2-2 with a double and scored 3 runs. Meares finished 2-4 at the plate with a triple and 3 runs batted in. Wooten doubled and scored a run.
 
Cody Butler, Johnson, Jay McKoy, Rasean McKoy, Sholar and Zachary Butler added for one hit each for the winners. Sholar and Jay McKoy scored 2 runs each, and Johnson and Cody Butler scored one run each.
 
Deaver batted 2-3 with a double and 2 rbi’s for Bladenboro. Pait finished 2-3 at the plate with an rbi and a run scored. West was 2-3 with a run scored.
 
Jake Butler smashed the double, scored a run and drove one in. White and Williamson had one hit each. White scored 2 runs, and Williamson drove one in.
 
Coach Tripp Lancaster’s Cougars improved to 4-0 in the Bladen Five. Bladenboro dropped to 3-1.
