Calling all Bladen County residents! An Arizona teen is battling a rare and potentially deadly disease called mitochondrial disease and he has just one wish for his birthday—lots and lots of birthday cards! It seems Jacob Priestly, loves birthday cards.
Jacob Priestly’s mother said in an interview with KPHO television station in Mesa, AZ, “Since his disease is terminal, we don’t know how many more birthdays he’s going to have with us. We vowed that we would make every birthday bigger and better than last year.”
Mitochondrial disease occurs when the mitochondria, which produce energy in the cells, fail to function properly according to the Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.
Last year, Ms. Priestly posted a request on Facebook for birthday cards and he received 8,000 cards. This year, Jacob and his Mom are hoping to receive even more birthday cards from around the world. Their goal is to receive 10,000 or more birthday cards. That is where you come in. We know our residents here in Bladen County can help to fulfill this young man’s birthday request for lots and lots of cards!
