If you decide to drink and drive, be aware of ‘Booze It & Lose It.’ Bladen County local and state law enforcement officers are expected to be setting up road checks during the July 4th holiday. In fact, had a report they were already in the area. If you drink and drive, I hope you get to meet them, handcuffs and all.
Pat Summit, long time legendary Tennessee girls basketball coach died this morning. She had suffered from an Alzheimer type dementia disease since 2012. Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrig disease, and there are more, so sad to see folks suffer. Summit coached teams won 1,098 games in her 38 years as Volunteer coach.
Re-read the Beast of Bladenboro Wikipedia site yesterday. It is interesting, quotes by many area residents, many deceased. The year was 1953 and ’54.
I thought about the purchase of my first auto in ’54. No longer would I walk home late in the evening from Bladenboro to my home about 3 miles north of the town, worrying about the Beast of Bladenboro. I traded a pig I had hand fed since its birth, for an old model Chevrolet auto, even swap. Drove the car to town, but on my return trip, a rod went through the block and knocked the starter into the nearby ditch. Needless to say, car was disabled and I had no pig. All my assets were depleted in one big “bang”. My memory has faded, but think I gave the car to someone to move it from the shoulder of the road.
Fits in nicely with the Beast story, except my story was not enhanced.

Bladen County Coroner Hubert Kinlaw could write several books about his experiences, but he is not likely to do that, so much of what he has experienced/witnessed, will never be told.
I can’t believe I got fired from the calendar factory. All I did was take a day off.
My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned: couldn’t concentrate.
I was going to give him a nasty look, but he already had one.
