Tropical StromFolks are keeping a wary eye on the Atlantic this weekend as forecasters are saying Tropical Depression No. 9 will become a Tropical Storm and move across northern Florida before moving near the southeastern coast of the United States.

The forecast track now brings further westward and closer to land. The National Weather Service Office in Wilmington says the storm will make its closest approach to coastal North Carolina on Friday night. Winds are forecast to begin increasing Friday Friday morning and should decrease late Friday night.

According tot he National Weather Service Office, rain is forecast to increase Friday morning. Rainfall amounts are expected to be the highest along the coast. Some impacts could be flooding of low lying areas, flooding of some parking lots and roadways could also occur.

According tot he National Weather Service Office, areas west of Interstate 95 are expected to receive 1 to 3 inches of rainfall while areas with up to 5 to 7 inches forecast for the coastal areas.

Folks are encouraged to start making preparations for the storm now. Preparations should include securing lawn furniture and garbage cans, and any items that could be blown about by the wind.
