SPIVEY’S CORNER – East Bladen withstood a plethora of second-half fumbles and defeated Midway 28-16 in the Four County Conference junior varsity football opener for both teams.

“We held them to negative yards in the first half,” said Eagle Coach Ritchie Priest. “But we fumbled the first 3 times that we had the ball in the second half, and they scored on 2 of them.”

According to Coach Priest, the Eagles had ten fumbles in the game and lost 5 of them. “Fumbles, offside penalties, we looked like a different team in the second half,” said Coach Priest.

After Midway cut East Bladen’s 20-0 halftime lead to 20-16, sophmore Jordan Payton broke through the middle of the line and sprinted 40 yards for the clinching Eagle touchdown. Sophmore Josh McKoy ran the 2-point conversion that padded the lead to 28-16.

Freshman Lawson Hester scored the first East Bladen touchdown on a 7-yard run. Sophmore Eric Chancy dashed 10 yards for the second Eagle touchdown. Freshman Majuan McKoy caught a pass from freshman quarterback Jordan Robinson for the 2-point conversion and a 14-0 lead.

Just before halftime Chancy threw a 30-yard halfback pass to sophmore Shy Pone.

The Eagles remained unbeaten at 4-0 with the victory and will travel to Clinton Thursday for a 6:30 game.
