CHARLOTTE – Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) had this reaction to reports President Obama made a secret deal to lift sanctions on Iran’s ballistic missile program, which violates President Obama’s own nuclear deal with Iran:

“President Obama is Commander-in-Chief.  He twice took a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.  How does secretly lifting sanctions on the banks which finance Iran’s ballistic missile program fulfill his responsibility to protect America?

“President Obama hailed his nuclear agreement with the world’s number-one state sponsor of terrorism as great diplomacy.  Airlifting ransom payments is not great diplomacy.  Trading away America’s national security with secret side deals is not great diplomacy.  What else did President Obama give away in his misguided quest to build a legacy through appeasing terrorists?  What’s the next shoe to drop?”

Congressman Pittenger serves as Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, and as Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Committee Task Force to Investigate Terrorism Financing.
