Sophia Masaid lit up the scoreboard with 5 goals Tuesday and led Clarkton School of Discovery to a 9-1 Bladen Five Middle School Conference girls soccer victory over Tar Heel.
Clarkton’s Katie Evans fired in the first goal of the girls soccer season in the first minute of play. Two minutes later Lauren Bowen raced down the field and knocked another Lady Blue Devil goal into the net.
Masaid started her scoring barrage with an unassisted goal a minute later. In the ninth minute, Evans turned a Sara Gargala throw-in into a goal and a 4-0 lead.
Tar Heel cracked the scoring column a minute later, but back came the Lady Blue Devils with Bowen sending a pass that led to Masaid’s second goal and a 5-1 lead.
In the 16th minute Cydney Campbell dribbled past two defenders and extended the lead to 6-1 with a goal.
Masaid converted an Evans assist into a goal in the 32nd minute then Masaid found the back of the net a minute later. Ten minutes later the Evans to Masaid combination delivered again as Masaid tallied her final goal.
Evans finished with 2 goals and 2 assists, and Bowen and Campbell tallied one goal each. Bowen and Gargala also had one assist each.
