TAR HEEL – Alexus Mitchell poured in 24 points to lead Elizabethtown to a 36-13 Bladen Five Middle School girls basketball over Tar Heel Tuesday.

Mitchell rang up 3 baskets in the first quarter as the Lady Cougars jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Ronkia Lennon threw in the other Elizabethtown basket in the period.

Mitchell continued to blister the nets with 4 more baskets in the second quarter, and Lennon pumped in another basket in the period as the lead grew to 18-4 at halftime. Shelby Pharr tossed in the first two baskets for Tar Heel in the second period.

The Lady Panthers tallied 7 more points in the third quarter. Anasia Baxley sank a basket and 2 free throws in the quarter, Le’nya Harrell made a basket, and Pharr tacked on a free throw to keep the margin at 23-11.

Lennon delivered another basket in the third period and finished with 6 points for Elizabethtown. Lavada Jackson connected for a Lady Cougar basket, and teammate Kayleigh Raynor knocked down a free throw.

Mitchell lit up the scoreboard with 5 more baskets in the final quarter. Teammate Chelsie Herring drained a 2-point shot, and Carlie West hit a free throw. Karen Santos netted the only Tar Heel basket in the period.

Pharr led the Tar Heel scoring with 5 points, and Baxley followed with 4 points.
