A portion of N.C. 242 south of Lula Long Road (State Road 1508) is now open while Twisted Hickory Road also was expected to open Friday night, says Ken Clark, who is maintenance engineer for the Bladen County office of the N.C. Department of Transportation

However, Clark notes, N.C. 242 still remains closed north of Johnsontown Road (State Road 1509) and south of Sweet Home Church Road (State Road 1511) at the Jones Lake Overflow.

The existing detour on Johnsontown Road will remain in effect as the existing detour remains the shortest route for thru traffic on N.C. 242. The recent opening will permit access to Dowd Dairy Road to/from the Ammon area.

A signed detour is in place on Johnsontown Road using Jack Richardson Road (State Road 1505) and Old Fayetteville Road (State Road 1002). Work on N.C. 242 near Johnsontown Road is expected to be comopleted March 31.

Highway road near Sweet Home Church Road is expected to be completed by the end of February. Until then, a detour is in effect to use U.S. 701 and Sweet Home Church Road.
