DUNN – Midway rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat West Bladen 5-4 Tuesday night in Four County Conference baseball action.

West Bladen took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but a pair of opposite field singles, 2 walks, a hit batsman and an error resulted in the 5 Raider runs.

“They didn’t hit the ball hard all night,” said Knight Coach Kim Cain. “We just had one bad inning.”

The Knights took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Senior Jarrett Williams beat out an infield hit, and senior Trent West belted a single. Junior Scott Bowen crushed a 3-run home run to left-centerfield that scored Williams and Trent West for a 3-0 lead.

The Knights tacked on a run in the third inning. Trent West and Bowen cracked singles, and senior Caleb Sholar raked a single over the third base bag that scored Trent West for a 4-0 lead.

“We left runners on base all night,” said Coach Cain. “We hit some rockets. Scott’s home run was way out of there. T. J. Guyton hit one to the fence at the 330 mark, and Jarrett hit another one to the fence.”

Bowen finished 3-4 at the plate with the 3-run homer to lead the Knights. Trent West also batted 3-4 and scored 2 runs. Williams was 2-4 with a run scored. Junior Trey Storms batted 2-3, Sholar cracked the run-scoring single, and Weston Pidgeon singled and scored a run.

Trent West pitched 5.1 innings, allowed 5 hits and struck out three. Bowen relieved and got the last two outs.

The loss snapped a 7-game winning streak for the Knights who are now 5-1 in the league and 7-4 overall. West Bladen is scheduled to visit Union Friday night for a 6:30 game.
