FAYETTEVILLE – Today, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) toured neighborhoods in Fayetteville, Hope Mills, and Bladen County which are still recovering from Hurricane Matthew. This latest tour is part of his ongoing efforts to secure additional disaster recovery funding, including regular communication with FEMA, HUD, and House Appropriations.

“Today I spent several hours touring Fayetteville and Hope Mills with their Mayors, Nat Robertson and Jackie Warner, and touring portions of Bladen County with Emergency Management. The devastation remains, with lost bridges and abandoned homes. Armed with these first-hand accounts, I will return to Washington to continue fighting for FEMA and HUD support for eastern North Carolina. We have already-approved funding in the pipeline and additional funding to be appropriated,” said Congressman Pittenger.

Congressman Pittenger, who first toured the flood damage last October when I-95 was still underwater, was joined on this tour by a Washington-based staffer who assists with FEMA issues.

Just last week, Congressman Pittenger spoke with Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson and received assurances that the most up-to-date FEMA data would be used to calculate North Carolina’s remaining needs. Previous estimates for Hurricane Matthew funding were not based on current data.
