Thoughts While ShavingNow that the NC State budget has been passed, vetoed by the Governor and soon to be overridden by the legislature, ‘silly season’ begins.  Strange action on the part of the leadership, been that way as long as I can remember.  Democrats were guilty years ago and Republicans ‘screamed’ foul, now the Republicans are in charge and Democrats will be screaming.  Hold on, the ride is interesting, many time worrisome.  Would be good to see both parties acting like adults.  The sooner they adjourn, the better off we will be.

And in Congress, repealing and replacing Obamacare is proving to be more difficult than first thought.  Senators are opposed for various reasons, but the bottom line for many is, how will my vote on healthcare affect my re-election  The #1 goal of any politician is to get re-elected, regardless of what is said.

What if every citizen enjoyed the same healthcare coverage as our members of Congress?  Not suggesting that, just a thought. It’s a part of their benefit package.

As a Bladen County Commissioner in the dark ages of the mid 70s and early 80s, think our total package was less than $25 per meeting, no benefits.  When I left, eight years later, it was a couple of hundreds a month, total package, and just 5 commissioners.  Not a good comparison, I know.  Many thought we were overpaid then, may have been.

Impressive ceremony yesterday in Tar Heel, probably a couple of hundred or more to witness the Dedication Ceremony of the David B. Melvin Bridge.
