 West Bladen High School LogoCERRO GORDO – West Bladen split a Dixie Pre-Majors Baseball double-header at West Columbus Monday night winning the first game 7-5 before dropping the nightcap by a 12-1 margin.
 
The Knights jumped in front 2-0 in the first inning of the opener as Dalton Pait walked, and Logan West cracked a single. After a wild pitch, Scott Bowen’s fielder’s choice plated Pait, and Trey Storms drove in West with a single.
 
Nolan Bryant belted a second inning single, and David Valenta was hit by a pitch. After a wild pitch on a bunt attempt, Derrick Long knocked in Bryant for a 3-0 lead.
 
West walked in the third inning, and Bowen drilled a shot past the centerfielder as West and Bowen circled the bases for a 5-0 lead.
 
West Columbus answered with 4 runs in the fourth to close the gap to 5-4, but West and Bowen were hit by pitches and scored a pair of insurance runs in the Knight fifth inning.
 
Long started on the mound for the Knights and pitched 3.1 innings to pick up the win. Bowen pitched the final 1.2 innings to record the save.
 
West Columbus scored 12 runs in the first two innings to take charge early in the second game. Bryant started on the mound for the Knights, and Colby White relieved him in the second inning.
 
The Knights are now 6-2 on the season and will host East Columbus in a double-header Wednesday at 6 p.m.
