Heide Trask pushed across a pair of unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning to claim a 6-4 victory at West Bladen Wednesday night in a battle of Four County Conference unbeatens.

A one-out error and a 2-out hit produced the tie-breaking run in the eighth, and another error plated an insurance run.

The Lady Titans remained tied for the top spot with a 3-0 league record, while West Bladen drops to 2-1 in the league and 4-2 overall.

The Lady Knights threatened to end the game in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Nicole Wyatt and sophmore Laikyn Pait started the inning with walks, and a wild throw on a fielder’s choice put runners at second and third base with one out.

However Trask pitcher Brittany Foy retired the next 2 batters to end the inning. Foy picked up the win with 3 innings in relief of Lady Titan starter A. J. Johnson.

“We had some opportunities,” said Lady Knight Coach Pam Stephens. “If we had brought that runner home in the seventh, the top of the eighth would have never happened.”

Wyatt batted 2-3 to lead the Lady Knight hitters. Senior Amber Bills finished 2-5 at the plate, and senior Morgan Sweeney cracked a single. Sophmores Alanna Ludlum and Logan Autry and freshman Abby Dawson contributed one bunt single each.

Wyatt went the distance in the circle for West Bladen, pitching an 8-hitter with a walk and 2 strike-outs. Only 2 of the Trask runs were earned.

Two bunts and a single produced the first Trask run in the top of the second, but the Lady Knights answered in the bottom half. Pait walked, and Ludlum pushed a bunt single past the thirdbaseman. Kassidy Anderson’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners up and Dawson’s bunt single scored Pait and tied the game.

The Lady Titans scored 3 runs in the top of the third to go up 4-1, but West trimmed the margin to 4-2 in the bottom of the inning. Sweeney led off with a walk, and Wyatt belted a single to left. Pait’s infield out advanced the runners, and Ludlum’s sacrifice bunt plated Sweeney.

The Lady Knights pulled even in the fourth. Dawson and Autry drew walks and moved up on Sophia Singletary’s sacrifice bunt. A Lady Titan error plated both runs and tied the score.

West Bladen will travel to Pender Friday.
