Patsy Sheppard is a breath of fresh air for our Democracy. She is on the Bladen County Board of Elections and defends against ANY KIND of assault on the Truth concerning our election process from any side. Let us all agree that we appreciate her defense of our Nation's voting system. She, like Sally Salter deserve our admiration and praise. The Governor of North Carolina chose her for a purpose and he chose correctly. Gaurding your Vote isn't for the faint of heart since Putin and Trump collaborated.

As a board of elections member I receive the emails sent to you and to the Bladen Journal. Those emails contain the number of voters each day of early voting. None of them contain the claim that “less than 1%” of voters in Bladen County have voted, and the Bladen Journal certainly never published that false claim.
As I said in the posting you refused to publish, it was obviously an error and should have said less than 10%.
If you are claiming that someone associated with the board of elections provided you with the wrong information, by all means let Director Chris Williams know about it.
But that still would not explain why you or your staff would not fact check or verify the accuracy of information that you publish.
Furthermore, you gladly published a preliminary legal opinion by the chief legal counsel for the NC State Board of Elections that turned out to be incorrect because it was based on false information provided to her by the Bladen County Republican Party Chair, but NEVER published the correct opinion that proved that our board of elections acted properly within the law.
But perhaps the board member who gave you the legally privileged document in violation of the law only gave you the wrong information because that is all he wanted to be published and knew you would be only too happy to do it and would never bother to publish the fact that it was proven to be wrong. Which is exactly what you did.
Just tell the whole truth, publish the whole truth, and keep your personal bias out of your reporting. If you don’t, then BladenOnline is really what the former editor of the Bladen Journal called it-a glorified Facebook page.

I have a question for all of you. Who cares what the percentage is? This means nothing to people in our county. Working people don't care about this political theatre, and don't care if their neighbor voted last Wednesday, last Friday, or on Tuesday. We are wondering where we can go vote for people that don't have a D or an R beside their names because neither of those groups are helping anyone except themselves. We have so many big problems here in Bladen County, and you folks are arguing over a percentage printed in a local media outlet.
We have low unemployment numbers, but have jobs that can't be filled. That means people are not participating in the workforce at levels we have never seen. The results are that we don't get enough pork produced to meet the needs of buyers. More demand than the goods produced causes higher prices and inflation. Fears of inflation will cause people to buy in bulk to get as much as they can at the current price. This drives even more demand. This leads to families struggling to get basic necessities, such as baby formula. The politicians need to work on that.
We have families bolting from the public school system in waves never seen before. You want to see a vote of no confidence in our school boards, look at how NC homeschool families doubled from 2020 to 2021. As a homeschool father, I don't ever see a scenario where my child attends a public school in NC. The politicians should work on that.
There are so many problems that you Democrats and you Republicans can discuss and find common ground on, but you want to complain about something that means nothing. I see all of these ads from local, state, and national elections and all it really means is that I have to listen to someone else talk BS for 2 or 4 more years.

Wayne Schaeffer, Are you employed by Bladen Online these days? Otherwise how are you privy to their sources? It does appear that the basic information came from the BOE, but the article was published by Bladen Online, making them responsible for it’s accuracy.
Did you arrange this article? It does seem to have a bit of a Republican Slant, you know, Early Voting is useless….. And we all know that Baden Online is pretty much a wing of the Bladen County Republican Party.

For the few who struggle with basic reading comprehension, it is worth noting that a recent BladenOnline news article by Sonny Jones, discussing the total number of votes cast during the early voting period thus far, offered a quotation from the Bladen County Board of Elections. That quote (directly from the article) said...

Given other data that is provided in the article, that percentage doesn't appear to be correct. However, the reader who questioned that report might want to take it up with the Board of Elections, from whom that quote was obtained, rather than vilifying the reporter by suggesting they were publishing 'misinformation'.
Perish the thought that Biden's Disinformation Governance Board should fact-check the Board of Elections math skills!

We have had so much to celebrate this season! Thank you to all the people who stopped by Smith & Sons Heating & Cooling at 1110 S. Poplar Street in Elizabethtown to celebrate our 7th business anniversary and sign my petition. The 7–7-7 Celebration was exciting and fun!
I'm almost a bona fide candidate for the Bladen County Board of Education Countywide seat. It was beautiful to see all the people stop by that have been supporting us for years, to meet some new friends, and celebrate with the community.
At the lunch-and-learn Smith & Sons hosted, Daine spoke and gave some valuable information about the HVAC industry. Since so many people stopped and signed my petition and gave me input about the education system during the celebration, I want to share some critical issues about our education system because I am passionate about the success of our community.
1. We (meaning the Board members that represent us at the School meetings) need to know all the information, read all the packets, make educated decisions, and discuss issues with the school staff and the public. Board members need to be informed on all decisions they vote on for the school system. All action items the Board votes to approve should be public. Voting on action items such as "Action Item A and Action Item B," without further explanation on what is being voted on should not be acceptable.
2. Bladen County has the highest vacancy rate for teaching positions in North Carolina. We need qualified, caring teachers, and we need to keep the ones we have by showing teachers appreciation. At the last Board of Education meeting in April, the Board voted to have incentives for hiring more teachers, and they voted for a small raise for teachers. These action items are excellent to approve but should have been done a long time ago. We need to continue advocating for our teachers.
3. Last year, the Board approved hiring a new Superintendent that was not fully credentialed at the time of his hiring. The Board agreed for Bladen County Schools to pay for the latest Superintendent's further training so that he could be qualified for the position and then raised the salary of the Superintendent position. The Board did not approve incentives for teachers or other school staff members when they approved the new Superintendent's raise and expenditures to further his education. Then this year, at the April meeting, the Board approved extending the Superintendent's contract, increasing his salary again, and eliminating the "Unilateral Termination by the Board" clause in his contract. The unanimously approved action item does not make good business sense. If the Board members were treating their public position like a business owner, they would consider waiting until closer to the Superintendent's contract renewal period. The Board would also consider the Superintendent's overall performance, survey his staff members on his performance, and seek the public's opinion before making pay increases, changing contracts, and taking away the Board's right to terminate. Also, when hiring for a position, the Board would be wise to consider all qualified candidates before hiring personnel.
4. The Capital Outlay funding and Bladen County debt should be budgeted and carefully spent. Qualified, licensed contractors need to work for Bladen County Schools, and they need to be consulted when Capital Outlay funds are being spent. The Board members should also ensure matching funds are approved before voting on matters where matching funds are a crucial part of the project. Recently the Board approved the Tar Heel School project without knowing if NCDPI would authorize the $40 million needed to complete the entire project. It is my understanding that NCDPI did not approve the total $40 million required for the project.
5. A Bladen County Quarter Cent Sales Tax should be proposed to citizens and earmarked when passed to supplement teachers' salaries and special education resources. Our elected officials have been pushing the sales tax issue. The sales tax is fair because all people spending money in Bladen County will contribute. Property owners should not have to be the only people paying taxes. We have many tourists and visitors enjoying our area, and we should capitalize on the potential revenue to educate our children. In addition to that point, everyone should know early education is key, and our babies need to learn! The NC Lottery contributes money for Capital Outlay expenses. We need funding for teachers and staff salaries, resources, and other items.
6. We need more resources for our teachers and students. The Board members should research and champion quality resources to support the best education for our students. Resources purchased should not only be for online applications, but Bladen County Schools should have hands-on resources available for learning. An example of where we are lacking resources are for the disabled, special needs, and mentally disabled children. We are lacking in this area in a variety of ways. At the next Board of Education meeting the Board will consider purchasing a new core literacy curriculum from Amplify. The total investment will be $602,811.95. However, there are mixed reviews about this curriculum. I hope the Board members have researched this curriculum before they vote on it on May 9, 2022. Another resource need to consider is school counselors. We have a rise in mental and emotional health needs.
7. Our voices need to be heard. The Board members and the Superindentent need to make the State Board of Education meetings a priority. Support for Bladen County Schools needs to be seen and heard. We may not agree on everything, but we all can work together to better our community. Isn't that what we teach our children?

Since so many people stopped and signed my petition and gave me input about the education system during the celebration, I want to share some critical issues about our education system because I am passionate about the success of our community.
1. We (meaning the Board members that represent us at the School meetings) need to know all the information, read all the packets, make educated decisions, and discuss issues with the school staff and the public. Board members need to be informed on all decisions they vote on for the school system. All action items the Board votes to approve should be public. Voting on action items such as "Action Item A and Action Item B," without further explanation on what is being voted on should not be acceptable.
2. Bladen County has the highest vacancy rate for teaching positions in North Carolina. We need qualified, caring teachers, and we need to keep the ones we have by showing teachers appreciation. At the last Board of Education meeting in April, the Board voted to have incentives for hiring more teachers, and they voted for a small raise for teachers. These action items are excellent to approve but should have been done a long time ago. We need to continue advocating for our teachers.
3. Last year, the Board approved hiring a new Superintendent that was not fully credentialed at the time of his hiring. The Board agreed for Bladen County Schools to pay for the latest Superintendent's further training so that he could be qualified for the position and then raised the salary of the Superintendent position. The Board did not approve incentives for teachers or other school staff members when they approved the new Superintendent's raise and expenditures to further his education. Then this year, at the April meeting, the Board approved extending the Superintendent's contract, increasing his salary again, and eliminating the "Unilateral Termination by the Board" clause in his contract. The unanimously approved action item does not make good business sense. If the Board members were treating their public position like a business owner, they would consider waiting until closer to the Superintendent's contract renewal period. The Board would also consider the Superintendent's overall performance, survey his staff members on his performance, and seek the public's opinion before making pay increases, changing contracts, and taking away the Board's right to terminate. Also, when hiring for a position, the Board would be wise to consider all qualified candidates before hiring personnel.
4. The Capital Outlay funding and Bladen County debt should be budgeted and carefully spent. Qualified, licensed contractors need to work for Bladen County Schools, and they need to be consulted when Capital Outlay funds are being spent. The Board members should also ensure matching funds are approved before voting on matters where matching funds are a crucial part of the project. Recently the Board approved the Tar Heel School project without knowing if NCDPI would authorize the $40 million needed to complete the entire project. It is my understanding that NCDPI did not approve the total $40 million required for the project.
5. A Bladen County Quarter Cent Sales Tax should be proposed to citizens and earmarked when passed to supplement teachers' salaries and special education resources. Our elected officials have been pushing the sales tax issue. The sales tax is fair because all people spending money in Bladen County will contribute. Property owners should not have to be the only people paying taxes. We have many tourists and visitors enjoying our area, and we should capitalize on the potential revenue to educate our children. In addition to that point, everyone should know early education is key, and our babies need to learn! The NC Lottery contributes money for Capital Outlay expenses. We need funding for teachers and staff salaries, resources, and other items.
6. We need more resources for our teachers and students. The Board members should research and champion quality resources to support the best education for our students. Resources purchased should not only be for online applications, but Bladen County Schools should have hands-on resources available for learning. An example of where we are lacking resources are for the disabled, special needs, and mentally disabled children. We are lacking in this area in a variety of ways. At the next Board of Education meeting the Board will consider purchasing a new core literacy curriculum from Amplify. The total investment will be $602,811.95. However, there are mixed reviews about this curriculum. I hope the Board members have researched this curriculum before they vote on it on May 9, 2022. Another resource need to consider is school counselors. We have a rise in mental and emotional health needs.
7. Our voices need to be heard. The Board members and the Superindentent need to make the State Board of Education meetings a priority. Support for Bladen County Schools needs to be seen and heard. We may not agree on everything, but we all can work together to better our community. Isn't that what we teach our children?

Billy, You are looking at the wrong individual when you make the statement about black people. In particular the black woman judge that was recently nominated by President Biden to the Supreme Court. If I make no mistake, this is the same President Biden when he was campaigning for the Presidency that looked a black man in the eyes and said, "if you don't vote for me you ain't black". Well, if a black man ain't black what is he color of his skin? If a Republican candidate for President made that statement, he would have been crucified. As for the judge that President Biden nominated (which he nominated because of the color of her skin); we got a whole lot of catching up to do to have all the different races in America represented on the Supreme Court. And I might add, the judge's record stands on its own. Somehow or other, if we could look into President Biden's mind after the fact he probably would not have nominated her. Billy, When a man serves as President of the United States; he serves at the will of the American citizen and more importantly for the benefit of the American people. Never heard anyone say President Jimmy Carter was not a "good" Christian but even the democrats think he was, pardon the language, a crummy President. He indeed is to be admired as a Christian but not so highly thought of a good President. Currently, we have a man who indeed a classic Politician but without a doubt one of the worst if not the worst President who ever served our nation. All kinds of men have served our nation as President, forntunately for our nation we needed a great businessman as President of our nation in 2016 and 2020; that is just what we got in President Trump in 2016. Interesting thing about businessmen, they have to keep their promises BECAUSE THEY ARE BUSINESSMEN; that is what President Trump did. One day, the oil reserves will not be touched, the next day he releases barrels from the reserves. Here in Bladen County they can just attend a BOE"elections" meeting and see how the Republican members deal with the majority members on that board. Even one of the D members has admitted the D members have got to stop the way they are acting. It is bad enough when Repulbican voters won't serve in the election process but when the democrat voters begin to be unwilling to serve in the election process; things are not looking well for the D members of the Board. Bladen County voters have Governor Roy Cooper to thank for the mess we are currently experiencing on the BOE. Of course, I appealed it as are some of my acquaintances who were shocked to see their revaluations. I think our commissioners are decent people and will be fair in reviewing the appeals. Time will tell.

The point is that a Panel of NC Judges have found that the way we handle Felons Voting is akin the way we used to use the old Jim Crowe Poll tax. The ability of a Citizen to vote should not depend on his ability to pay. They found it clearly discriminatory. The percentage of people who vote or receive Freebees has nothing to do with the issue.

Actually it was the Judges, in their ruling, that pointed out that it was a racial issue. The NC Law went into effect during Jim Crowe times and was very effective at eliminating Black Voters.
It seems only fair that once you have completed your debt to society and are released from incarceration that you are allowed to vote. How does it benefit society to prevent a large segment of citizens from participating in our elections?

Do you believe that a man convicted of a felony should lose his voting rights forever? That is basically what happens in NC, we are unique in having these kind of laws. In most states once a man is released from prison he can vote, but not in NC. Reclaiming your voting rights actually requires hiring a lawyer to advocate your case. In some states even prisoners can vote. The only changes you will see is once a man leaves prison he can vote.

It's time to paint the Bladen County water towers again so that Bladen is seen as a clean County when the National News Reporters roll in due to the County GOP Chairman spewing putrid bile on the Bladen County Board of Elections members once again. I wonder what Mr. Schaeffer finds wrong with Independents, actually I never met one that was not really a Republican. Often they give the reason they are Indpendents as being able to vote in either the Republican or Democratic Primary. I suppose that is true. I realize it is difficult to find a registered Republican who is willing to serve as a Judge, but why choose an out of Precinct Republican over an in Precinct Independent? The in Precinct Independent Judge is bound to be more familiar with just whoever is supposed to be voting in that particular Precinct. And why discriminate against Independents? We need all three parties represented in our Voting activities.

Today, the 1,000, 000 death has occurred due to covid 19 in the United States of America. The night before President Biden took office, he attended a memorial service for the 400,000 Americans who had died due to covid 19 since it was discovered. The next day, the President promised the nation in his inaugural speech that, " we are going to beat this virus. We're going to get it under control, I promise you". Here fourteen months and two day later, over 600,000 more Americans have died of covid. If this is, beating the virus and getting it under control it certainly is not keeping a promise. It is sort of ironical that the President is over seas where very few leaders have any confidence in his ability to lead the freedom loving American people. Hope you have a good trip over seas and maybe you can attend another memorial service for the over 600,000 that have died during your tenure in the White House. Jim Jordan seemed to be particularly offended by the Crown Act, but the bills that he seems to be sponsoring currently are ones to rename Post Offices in the name of certain of his friends.
If you go to Congress.gov you can look at all the currently sponsored bills by both R & D. I could not find any bills dealing with a solution to inflation.
Madison Cawthorn has become very vocal lately but he does not seen to get involved in Legislation.I do not think that he will help NC Republicans very much in the next election. Particularly given his new District.

There we have it folks, the FIRST amendment to the Constitution needs to be done away with and placed in the hands of Justice William Butler Jr. of Charlotte NC. That is what the liberal socialist democrats are after, is to do away with the entire Constitution. And a man that was raised in Bladen County wants to start with doing away with "freedom of speech". What will be the next amendment that Justice Butler will do away with? Well, there sits Amendment II; the right to bear arms.
